José Luis Medina

Born in Córdoba, land of great guitarists. Upon turning 13, he began studying dance and song guitar accompaniment. He was taught by masters of the craft such as Alberto Lucena, Manolo Franco, Pedro Sierra, Pacoor Miguel Ángel Cortés.

José Luis is no stranger to first prize awards. In 2005 he is awarded first prize in accompaniment from the Cristina Heeren Foundation, which grants him an important scholarship. It is also worth highlighting the first prize for GuitarraFlamenca at the “Anilla la Gitana” contest, hosted by the Peña Flamenca de Ronda (Málaga); as well as Best OriginalMusical Composition for Dance at the Spanish Choreographic Dance and Flamenco Championships (Madrid, 2018).

Through the whole of his career, José Luis has been featuredin prestigious festivals within Spain and beyond its borders; such as the Seville and Málaga’s Bienal de Flamenco, Jerez’s Festival, Mont-de-Marsan and Nîmes’ festivals (both in France), and México’s Festival IbéricaContemporánea to name a few.

Additionally, he has taken part in companies of renowned artists like David Coria, Rosario Toledo, María Moreno, Mercedes de Córdoba and Ana Morales, or Rafaela Carrasco among others.

In terms of his academic career, he holds a degree from the Conservatorio Superior de Córdoba de GuitarraFlamenca (2016) as well as a Master’s degree in Flamenco Research from Universidad Pablo de Olavide in Seville (2023).
